  • So really your only reason for possibly not liking next cloud is that it’s PHP, correct?

What is the problem with PHP? I keep asking it and until now every response has been near me worthy. “Don’t like PHP because some function calls are not consistent.”, “don’t like PHP because 20 years ago it had Manu unsafe practices!”, that sort of nonsense.

What is the problem with PHP, for you?

I fully agree but we’re omnivores and to be healthy some meat should be eaten. Yeah, we eat way WAY too much meat, but that is a different issue.

As soon as lab meat is a proper thing (still not sure about the viability of that one, though) I will finally eat meat and not feel bad about it

  • Move the ssh port to higher ranges, 30-60000. That alone will stop 99% of the attacks

Disable root logins, now usernames must be guessed too which will make success even lower

    Then require SSH keys

At that point it’s like being in a nuclear fallout nshelter behind a 3 meter thick steel door and you can hear some zombies scratching on the outside… I’m not worried about any of that shit

  • I’ve used Linux for 25 years now and I remember every time when back then people needed help with windows it was always "go to the registry editor and add the key djrgegfbwkgisgktkwbthagnsfidjgnwhtjrtv in position god-knows-where to fix some stupid windows shit. that, apparently, made windows user ready

On Linux I’d have to edit an English language file and add an English word and that meant it wasn’t user ready

Yeah, Linux was ready long ago

  • Context matters

Its a very blunt statement but also the way certain people talk. I honestly don’t think Torvalds wants the entire opensuse team tomkill themselves

He didn’t say “hey, <insert name here> go kill yourself”.

He said that if you’re a dev and think its normal to require root password for changing time or connecting to a network, then please kill yourself.

It’s more than anything an expression of frustration in which I recognize myself. I have to deal with a provider from which I won’t be able to leave for at least another year, which is extremely expensive and extremely incompetent, causing me literally days of work and I have wished in more than one occasion that they would all die in a fire because it’s all incompetent managers who don’t do the work they cause all the shit.

When he talks to someone directly, he’ll know, right, Mauro?
