Dude, I would be hesitant to use an OS more than a month after EOL. I hope you realize that your OS no longer receiving security updates is a really, really, really bad thing. People staying on Win10 instead of upgrading to Linux or macOS or downgrading to Win11 is going to be zero day heaven.

I really like the fact that the Lemmy community includes a whole swathe of trans folk, I learned some new stuff the safe way and that’s really REALLY valuable to me.
I also really like the freedom that using Lemmy for social media empowers us with. Freedom of OS, Porn, whatever.
I can respect almost all kinks, ofc there’s bound to be a couple I don’t understand but that’s not a problem for me, if every participant consented.
I dislike furry kink, it invokes a feeling of disgust in me. This post alienates me slightly from the Linux community. Not a problem, but it did make me realize I would want to be more careful linking my kinks to my favorite Tools/Software in the future in a global media setting.

From what I’ve seen while Linux support is okay for the Surface line, it’s just not there yet to make sense as an “upgrade” power management and wireless still need some work if I recall correctly.

Oh the times a-coming, but as I only really use my PC for gaming now, I’m holding out for a SteamOS distro.
you don’t have to wait, games run fine in most distros and the ones that don’t are probably because of anti cheat which won’t be solved with steamOS.
I’ve heard good things about Bazzite if that’s an option for you.
Bazzite has been awesome as a recent windows expat. 100% recommended and the only game I have not gotten working via the built in steam compatibility tools has been pubg.
I think the only thing stopping me from gaming 100% on bazzite is Helldivers 2 anti-cheat (so fucking tired of these rootkits) isn’t Linux compatible last time I checked.I hope that shit changes soon, because I can’t wait to fully remove windows off my extra hard drive.

Helldivers 2 is reported to work on Linux. IIRC the anti-cheat only requires kernel level access on Windows and runs in userspace on Linux.
Same here. The minute I can be confident than my steam collection will run on Linux, I’m switching over.

I’m not in a position to experiment, but I’m following the lead of a friend who is in such a position, and is far more technical than I am.

Just started using mint. Tell me a game that you’re curious about and if I own it I’ll try it out.
My current big ones are Windsail, Sunless Sea, Sunless Skies, Stardew, and Traveler’s Rest.
Also Star Trek Online, but that’s not Steam.

Sunless Sea, Sunless Skies and Stardew Valley have native Linux Support. For Stardew, even the third modding API works flawlessly for me.
For the other ones, they are reported to run well on protondb.com, which is a good place to check Linux support (not only for Steam games). The reports there usually also list, which proton version works well.
Just downloaded and played stardew for a few. Seems to work fine.

Already dual booting. Haven’t used Linux since 2010 so it’s been a bit of a learning curve. But now I haven’t booted into windows for about 2 months now and it’s been great for gaming.

Big thing holding me up is domain auth. Someone had decent luck getting something like Bazzite joined to a DC without major manual work?
Ubuntu has official Microsoft AD support and allows domain joining during setup. There are downsides to Ubuntu as well, though, so if that’s not an acceptable answer just know support exists and can likely be ported to anything with some effort.
Yeah, but I try and keep as little MS as possible, so my DC is a Linux system, which works fine for LDAP and MS systems joining, but somewhat ironically I’ve yet to be able to get a Linux system joined to it. They actually have a helper app even outside of sssd but it seems to be poorly maintained. Was trying Bazzite again today based on another comment but no luck so far.
